Maj
Founder
I started Walk and Talk after losing a close friend to mental health issues. Walking together helped me reconnect, gain perspective, and feel part of a community again. From that came a simple idea: make mental health support accessible, welcoming, and practical – one step at a time.
Youth work is also my passion, so I opened Bradley Youth Club to create a safe space where young people can learn, explore, and support each other through activities and discussion.
Men Talk grew out of a need for a space where men can share experiences without judgement, stay active, and support each other. Both projects are built on inclusivity, real conversation, and local collaboration.
Sponsorship and community investment
Iām deeply committed to helping the wider community thrive, not just the individuals who attend our programmes. To that end, I sponsor local childrenās football teams, ensuring that aspiring young athletes have access to coaching, safe spaces to play, and the equipment they need to develop confidence and teamwork.
I also support local boxers, recognising the discipline, focus, and resilience boxing builds. Sponsorship helps provide training opportunities, gear, and events that give young people positive outlets and a sense of accomplishment.
These sponsorships are part of a broader effort to invest in healthy, constructive activities that promote physical well-being, self-esteem, and social connection for families across our community.
Mental health and wellbeing at the heart of everythingMental health is not a niche concern for me; itās a foundational pillar of a healthy, connected community. By pairing physical activity with open, stigma-free conversations, we create spaces where people feel seen, heard, and supported.
Iāve seen first-hand how simple, consistent acts – like a walk with a friend, a safe space to talk, or a youth club activity – can transform someoneās day, week, and life. That belief drives every decision we make, from programme design to partnerships.
Our goal is to normalise mental health conversations for all ages, ensuring that no one is left behind, no matter where they are on their journey.
A mission for inclusive, sustainable community support
We operate without external funding, relying on volunteers, partnerships, and community resources. This grassroots approach keeps us aligned with the needs of local people and gives us the flexibility to respond quickly.
We welcome collaborations with families, schools, sports clubs, faith groups, and local businesses. If youāre interested in joining or volunteering, Iād love to hear from you.
If youād like to get involved, sponsor a local initiative, or talk about partnerships, Iām always open to conversations. Together, we can strengthen our whole community – one step, one conversation, and one act of support at a time.

Joanne
Trustee
Hi, Iām Joanne Wallwork, a proud mother to a baby girl just over a year old. My family and my dogs are everything to me, and Iām passionate about making memories with them through walking and travel. Mental health is a topic thatās close to my heart, and Iām committed to supporting others in our community to look after their well-being.
Professionally, I work as a deputy manager in the hospitality industry, where Iāve learned the importance of teamwork, empathy, and creating welcoming spaces for people to come together. Iām honoured to serve as a Trustee for Walk and Talk, helping to foster connection, promote mental health, and encourage-friendly, inclusive activities for people of all ages.

Darren
Trustee
Iām Darren Nutter, a trustee for Walk and Talk. Iām the oldest trustee, though Iād argue Iām not the wisest – some days Iām not sure I bring much to the table, and walking isnāt really my thing. What I do bring is a passion for dogs and a stubborn, can-do mindset that helps keep things moving when the going gets tough.
Professionally, I sell fridge freezers worldwide to big companies. Itās a fast-paced, demanding role, and Iāve learned a lot about reliability, logistics, and getting things done – skills I try to apply to Walk and Talk every day. I may not be the walking pro, but Iām here to support the team, support the people we serve, and help ensure we stay focused on our mission: mental health, community, and connection for all.
Fun fact: my real loves are dogs and making sure every day has a bit of practical progress. If thereās a way to help a member of our community or a colleague, Iāll be there, even if it means stepping outside my comfort zone.
If youād like to learn more about my role or how I support Walk and Talk, feel free to reach out. Iām happy to chat…about dogs.

Phil
Trustee
Hi, Iām Phil Wade, Founder Trustee of Breaking Cycles CIC. Iām passionate about getting people out cycling across Ribble Valley, Burnley, and Pendle, and about sharing the wellbeing benefits that riding brings. I teach cycling and bike maintenance, drawing on hands-on experience to help people build confidence and practical skills. Iāve done a lot of work in Pendle and have built lasting partnerships, most notably with Maj, with whom Iāve developed a strong friendship and collaboration.
Iām driven by a commitment to community health and inclusive activity, and Iām dedicated to helping people of all ages get out riding to improve both their physical and mental wellbeing.
Iām also very proud to be a trustee for Walk and Talk.

Nick
Trustee
Hi, Iām Nick Alderson and Iām proud to be a trustee of Walk and Talk. I got involved because I believe strongly in the power of community, connection, and conversation to improve peopleās wellbeing. Sometimes the simplest thingsālike a friendly walk and a good chat – can make the biggest difference.
For me, itās about breaking down barriers, tackling loneliness, and showing people that they donāt have to face challenges on their own. Being part of Walk and Talk is a privilege, and Iām excited to keep helping the charity grow and reach even more people in our community.
You could help make a difference!
